写真講座の帰りに作品について話すEmiとSarah：Day 1 Adjectives with Prepositions

写真講座を終えたEmiとSarahが、撮った写真や次回の撮影会について話しています。Photo Journal 2より少し長くなった会話の中で、形容詞＋前置詞のまとまりを聞き取りましょう。

このレッスンの狙い

interested in や worried about のように、気持ち・評価を表す形容詞と、その対象をつなぐ前置詞をひとかたまりで聞き取る。

STEP 1　聞く前に場面を予測する

EmiとSarahは写真講座のあと、カフェで今日の作品と次回の撮影会について話しています。次のコア単語を手がかりにしましょう。

  • look：意識を向けて見る
  • take：写真を自分の手元に取り込む
  • carry：物を持って移動する
  • bring：話し手のいる場所へ持ってくる
  • learn：知識や技術を自分の中に取り込む

STEP 2　字幕なしで会話を聞く

1回目は「Emiが何に満足しているか」「次回の撮影会で何を心配しているか」「雨の場合はどうするか」の3点をつかみましょう。

STEP 3　英文と日本語で確認する

Sarah: You looked happy during the photography workshop today. Are you pleased with your pictures?
今日の写真講座ではうれしそうだったね。撮った写真には満足している？

Emi: I am, especially with this one. At first, I was nervous about using the manual settings, but the instructor was very patient with us.
ええ、特にこの一枚には満足しているわ。最初はマニュアル設定を使うことに緊張したけれど、先生が私たちにとても辛抱強く教えてくれたの。

Sarah: I was impressed by your street photo. The light on the old shop was beautiful.
あなたの街角の写真に感心したわ。古いお店に当たる光がきれいだった。

Emi: Thank you. I’m interested in taking pictures of ordinary places. They often look different through a camera.
ありがとう。私は何気ない場所を撮ることに興味があるの。カメラを通すと、そういう場所が違って見えることがよくあるわ。

Sarah: That’s true. Are you thinking about joining the photo walk next month?
本当ね。来月の撮影会に参加しようと思っている？

Emi: Yes, but I’m a little concerned about carrying my camera all day. My bag gets heavy after a few hours.
ええ、でも一日中カメラを持ち歩くことが少し心配なの。数時間たつとバッグが重くなるから。

Sarah: You could bring just one lens. Kenji is good at choosing simple equipment for those walks.
レンズを一本だけ持っていけばいいかも。Kenjiは、そういう撮影会に合うシンプルな機材を選ぶのが得意よ。

Emi: Good idea. He’s also familiar with the older neighborhoods, isn’t he?
いい考えね。彼は古い街並みにも詳しいんでしょう？

Sarah: Yes. He knows several quiet streets near the river. I’m excited about going there in autumn.
ええ。川の近くの静かな通りをいくつか知っているわ。秋にそこへ行くのが楽しみ。

Emi: Me too, although I’m worried about the weather. Last year, it rained almost all day.
私も。でも天気が心配だわ。去年はほとんど一日中雨だったから。

Sarah: The instructor said they’re prepared for changes. If it rains, we’ll practice taking pictures indoors.
先生は予定変更にも準備していると言っていたわ。雨なら、室内で写真を撮る練習をするの。

Emi: Then I’m satisfied with the plan. I’d like to learn more about indoor light anyway.
それなら、その計画で満足よ。どちらにしても室内の光についてもっと学びたいし。

Sarah: Great. I’m glad you’re interested in coming. Let’s register before the class fills up.
よかった。あなたが参加に興味を持ってくれてうれしいわ。定員になる前に申し込みましょう。

Emi: Let’s do that. I’m ready for a new challenge.
そうしましょう。新しい挑戦への準備はできているわ。

STEP 4　キーフレーズを理解する

形容詞＋前置詞：気持ちと対象を橋渡しする

interested や worried だけでも気持ちは表せますが、「何に対してそう感じるのか」を続けるには前置詞が橋渡しをします。interested in photography なら、興味の意識が photography の中へ向いているイメージです。

about：その話題の周りに意識がある

nervous about using the settings や worried about the weather では、気持ちがその話題の周りを巡っています。心配・興奮・不安などの「意識している話題」を示すときに about がよく使われます。

with / by / at：つながり方が変わる

pleased with the picture は結果と一緒にいて満足、impressed by the photo は写真から影響を受けた、good at choosing は活動の一点で力を発揮する、というつながりです。形容詞と前置詞を別々に暗記せず、まとまりで覚えましょう。

しゅみすけ

前置詞は、日本語の助詞と一対一で置き換えるものではありません。形容詞が表す気持ちや評価と、その対象をどのような関係でつなぐかを示します。interested in、worried about、pleased with のように、短いかたまりのまま声に出して覚えてください。

STEP 5　音のポイント

  • interested in は二語を切らず、最後の /d/ と in を軽くつなげます。
  • worried about は about を強く読みすぎず、worried に中心を置きます。
  • good at は good の /d/ と at がつながり、一まとまりに聞こえます。
  • pleased with / impressed by は、前置詞まで含めてリズムを作りましょう。

STEP 6　声に出して練習する

  1. I’m interested in taking pictures of ordinary places.
  2. I was nervous about using the manual settings.
  3. I was impressed by your street photo.
  4. Kenji is good at choosing simple equipment.
  5. I’m satisfied with the plan.

置き換え練習

  • I’m interested in photography / cooking / local history.
  • I’m worried about the weather / the time / my bag.
  • I’m pleased with my picture / the plan / the result.
